Watching TV on a Laptop

Have you ever watched TV on a laptop computer? Not Hulu or Veoh, but actual TV where the commercials are a quarter of the time you end up watching, there are no “load times” and there is no “cache” to deal with. If you have had such an experience, it might have felt a little on the strange side. After all, unless you use multimedia software like BS Player to make viewing pleasurable, a laptop is better used to get important things like business done. It is not exactly the type of device that is well suited to the couch potato life style. Just imagine how annoyed your average couch potato would be, if they were getting their tube on to a small screen which sits on their lap.

First off, they would probably end up getting the keyboard into a ridiculously messy state. First thing, their hands would undoubtedly be greasy from all of the snack they eat. Secondly, they would probably spill their drinks every so often — and you know how good the average laptop computer is at catching whatever might be dropped within a few feet of where it is. Couple that with the fact that the crumbs from their potato chips would probably end up covering the insides in a greasy layer of dust, and you can understand why laptops and most couch potatoes are just not well suited to one another.

However, if you are the type of person who is usually extremely productive on your laptop, but who just wants to take a little break and check out an episode of your favorite show, it might actually be fun to watch a little bit of TV on your laptop. But if you do make sure to have the proper software installed.  You can get a good open source media player like VLC to make the most of your video watching.  As long as you do not take that as a cue to turn into a couch potato, you will probably end up being fine. Of course, the experience might feel a little weird, what with having your laptop on and not typing.
